Praia, 2 June 2026 – ECREEE welcomed a delegation from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) to its headquarters in Praia, Cabo Verde, for a high-level working visit aimed at reviewing ongoing cooperation and exploring opportunities for enhanced collaboration. The delegation was led by Ms. Elena Ruiz, Technical Manager responsible for ECOWAS in Madrid.
Discussions focused on the progress of AECID-financed programmes currently being implemented by ECREEE, the development of a new regional facility under preparation, and prospects for strengthening coordination and complementarity at the national level in Cabo Verde.
In his remarks, ECREEE Acting Executive Director Mr. Gibson Obasi underscored that the breadth of the agenda—covering three active programmes and a forthcoming regional facility—reflects the strength of the partnership and the level of mutual trust that has been built between ECREEE and AECID over the years.
The exchanges highlighted the importance of strategic continuity, shared learning, and institutional coordination in delivering inclusive and sustainable energy outcomes across ECOWAS Member States. A dedicated session explored potential synergies between ECREEE’s regional interventions and AECID-supported bilateral initiatives in Cabo Verde, including activities undertaken within the framework of the Covenant of Mayors.
The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of ECREEE and AECID toward deepening their cooperation in support of sustainable development and energy transition across West Africa.
