Launch the East African Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (EACREEE) on the 10th of June 2016

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in collaboration with the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat, has organized an official inauguration of the Centre of Excellence for the EACREEE in Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda on the 10th of June 2016.

Background:

UNIDO has been supporting EAC in establishing a regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, with financial support from Austrian Development Agency. After successfully completing the approval processes and the identification and selection of the host institution by the council of Ministers of EAC, the Centre has its official opening on 11 June 2016.

Hon Minister of Energy, Uganda officially opened East African Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (EACREEE). The official inauguration event has brought together the delegates nominated by the Partner States from their Ministries responsible for Energy, Senior Officials from partner States and various development partners.

The Regional Centre will be a forum for effective and efficient coordination and implementation of donor efforts in the area of achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) no. 7 “Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all”.
