Praia, Cabo Verde, 30 September 2026 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) hosted a courtesy visit by members of the ECOWAS Audit Committee on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, as part of activities held on the sidelines of the 65th Meeting of the ECOWAS Audit Committee, taking place in Praia from 28 September to 2 October 2026.
The visit provided an opportunity for constructive engagement between the Audit Committee and ECREEE staff on the Centre’s achievements, strategic priorities, and future challenges in advancing renewable energy and energy efficiency across the ECOWAS region.
Welcoming the delegation, ECREEE highlighted its commitment to promoting sustainable energy solutions while maintaining high standards of institutional governance, accountability, and audit compliance. The Committee commended ECREEE’s progress in strengthening internal controls and management systems across key operational areas, including finance, procurement, human resources, information and communication technology, and mission management.
The Chair of the Audit Committee, Mrs. Holo Sacramento Diane Claudelle, emphasized the Committee’s dedication to strengthening transparency and good governance across ECOWAS institutions. The meeting also featured remarks by Mr. Gibson O. Obasi, Executive Director of ECREEE, and Hon. Amin Amidu Sulemani, ECOWAS Commissioner for Infrastructure, Energy, and Digitalization, both of whom participated virtually.
During the session, ECREEE presented an overview of its major accomplishments, ongoing initiatives, and future plans, followed by an interactive question-and-answer session with members of the Audit Committee.
The visit was part of the historic first ECOWAS Audit Committee Meeting in Cabo Verde and reaffirmed the importance of collaboration between ECOWAS oversight bodies and specialized institutions in promoting effective governance, institutional performance, and responsible stewardship of Community resources.
The programme concluded with a group photograph and networking session, further strengthening cooperation between ECREEE, the ECOWAS Audit Committee, and the wider ECOWAS institutional community.
