As part of the 2025 UN Ocean Conference, this virtual side event will highlight the crucial role of women and youth in advancing sustainable, inclusive ocean-based economies and renewable energy solutions in coastal and island communities.
Hosted by the Government of Cabo Verde, and co-organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Global Network of Regional Sustainable Energy Centres (GN-SEC), the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE), and the Gender and Energy Compact, the event brings together a diverse panel of leaders, experts, and changemakers.
Discussions will explore how gender equality, youth leadership, and cross-sectoral innovation can accelerate access to ocean energy, promote coastal resilience, and support global commitments under SDG 5, SDG 7, and SDG 14. Real-world examples from SIDS and coastal regions will be shared, with a focus on entrepreneurship, marine conservation, finance, and inclusive policy-making.
The event will conclude with practical recommendations to strengthen gender- and youth-inclusive approaches in the renewable ocean energy economy.
