Tunisia announces Renewable Energy Action Plan 2030

On November 22, 2016, Tunisia announced the Tunisian Renewable Energy Action Plan 2030. Following a number of energy studies and due to the lack of a unified energy strategy, the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy launched a new plan and strategy.

The strategy aim is to strengthen both the national fossil and renewable energy resources. This will be implemented by improving energy intensity by 3% per year during 2016-2030. The strategy also aims to save energy by 17% during the period 2016-2020.

Moreover, the plan has as a target to produce 30% of Tunisia’s electricity from renewable energy sources in 2030 by installing 1000 MW in the first phase (2017 – 2020) and 1250 MW in the second phase (2021 – 2030).

The Tunisian government will implement its RE action plan starting 2017 and based on the law issued in 2015.
