RCREEE Discusses the Role of SMEs in Sustainable Energy Transition in Arab Forum for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency

The Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) held a panel session titled “The Role of SMEs in Sustainable Energy Transition” during the Arab Forum for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ARFREE) on 18 June, at El Gouna, Egypt. 

RCREEE’s panel session presented the relationship between SMEs and sustainable energy transition. In particular, focused on how SMEs can create demand for RE and EE technologies by improving the efficiency of their operations. In addition, the session highlighted international experience of how SMEs contributes to the supply of RE and EE solutions for end users across all sectors, including rural areas.

The League of Arab States also launched the “Pan-Arab Renewable Energy Strategy 2030: Roadmap of Actions for Implementation” report prepared by International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in cooperation with RCREEE.

In addition to that, on 20 June, on the sidelines of the Forum, a consultation workshop on “Localizing the Value Chain for the Manufacturing of Clean Energy Technologies in the Arab Region” organized by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in cooperation with RCREEE. The objective is to collect inputs required to develop a roadmap to strengthen regional coordination towards harmonized standards for locally manufactured clean energy technologies. In addition to promoting regional complementarities to support the creation of a market for these products.
