Southern African Power Pool – Energy Stakeholders & Market Roadshow in Botswana

The Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) is the first power pool in Africa incorporating all 12 SADC mainland states. The SAPP wholesale electricity exchange is a unique model that unites regional demand and supply to a transparent marketplace.  It is designed to incorporate the individual strengths and assets of each country combining heritage bilateral contracts and forward-looking auction products modernity. We operate five auction products to complement the needs of our members from a regional perspective. Our vision is to be a fully integrated, competitive energy market and a provider of sustainable energy solutions for the SADC region and beyond, to promote regional cooperation in power projects (Generation and Transmission) and to reduce load shedding amongst our members.

The SADC Council of Ministers at its meeting held in Johannesburg, South Africa in August 1995 approved the Intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding (IGMOU) on Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) and mandated the Ministers responsible for Energy to sign it on behalf of their Governments.  The Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) was created in April 1995 through the SADC Treaty the Directorate of Infrastructure with SADC Secretariat, Regional Energy Regulators Association of Southern Africa (RERA) and SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE) invites interested stakeholders to the SAPP Energy Stakeholders and Market Roadshow at Hotel 430, Gaborone, Botswana from the 31st of October 2023 to the 2nd of November 2023.  The energy stakeholders and roadshow’s aim is to bring the stakeholders in the electricity sector a better understanding of the wholesale auction electricity market products, regulations, and opportunities available and create conversations – meaning both our exhibitors and attendees experience the benefit of the personal touch.

Each event features a hand-picked selection of knowledgeable speakers in a roundtable format which allows for open, productive conversations.  The overall objective of the exercise is to expose decision-makers in the energy sector of the SADC region to the importance and key facets of the SAPP wholesale electricity market.
