Regional Workshop on Green Hydrogen Regional Strategy and Action Plan

Event date
Thursday, 20 July 2023 to Friday, 21 July 2023

The ECOWAS Green Hydrogen Policy and Strategy Framework was developed and adopted by the ECOWAS Energy Ministers on the 24th of March 2023 in Bissau, Guinea Bissau, and it’s expected to be adopted by the ECOWAS Council of Ministers in July 2023. The vision is to position the ECOWAS region as one of the most competitive producers and suppliers of green hydrogen globally.

In furtherance of this objective and to ensure that the Policy objectives are translated into concrete actions at regional and national levels, ECREEE is currently working with West African Science Service Centre for Climate and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) with the support of German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to develop a Regional Strategy and Action Plan for its Implementation.

It is within this context that ECREEE, in collaboration with WASCAL, is organizing a regional workshop to launch the development of the Green Hydrogen Regional Strategy and Action Plan from 2023 through to 2050. The workshop is scheduled to take place in Niamey, Niger from the 20th – 21st of July 2023. It will be preceded by the Green Hydrogen Steering Committee Meeting aimed at fostering greater collaboration and cooperation among the members.

Participants expected at the workshop includes representatives from the ECOWAS Member States, the ECOWAS Energy Directorate, and its specialized Energy Institution/Agencies (ECREEE, ERERA, WAPP), WASCAL and other partners, as well as resources persons.
