RCREEE Helps Mediterranean Governments in Low-Carbon and Climate Development

The Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) participated in the Mediterranean Workshop on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency from 23 to 25 September in Oran, Algeria.

The workshop objective is to highlight and discuss best practices and experiences in the field of renewable energies and energy efficiency in Mediterranean countries and to consolidate efforts in the implementation of RE and EE programs. The overall purpose of the event was to help sub-national governments around the world to develop low-carbon and climate resilient economic development projects. Ms. Rim Boukhchina Project Manager at RCREEE presented renewable energy and energy efficiency context in the Arab region and regional initiatives to promote sustainable development and role played by RCREEE in this regard. The event was accompanied by intense press and media coverage which highlighted the role played by RCREEE to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency in Arab region.

The workshop is organized jointly by Region 20 (R20) office for the sub-Mediterranean regions, the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership and the Algerian Ministry of Territorial Planning and Environment. Besides representatives of international and regional governmental and public authorities, several experts acting in energy and finance fields participated in the event. These include the African Development Bank, Mediterranean Energy Regulators (MEDREG), Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), MVV decon, Électricité de France (EDF), Ente Nazionale per l'energia ELettrica (EnelSpA), Hydro-Québe.
