RCREEE participated in the Fifth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development, held in Tunisia, on 4-6 November 2014. The forum aimed to discuss practical actions needed to attain the objectives of the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) Initiative of the United Nation’s (UN) Secretary-General through a regional agenda. This includes ensuring universal access to modern energy services, doubling the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency, and doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix by 2030. The Executive Secretaries of the UN regional commissions affirmed that the objectives of energy sustainability are attainable, and need not contradict more short-term considerations, if the world embarks on a determined, collective effort.  
 
Dr. Tareq Emtairah, Executive Director of RCREEE conducted a presentation entitled: “Towards a Unified Guideline for Renewable Energy Planning in the Arab Region” during the 2nd session about Promoting RE projects and programs in the Arab region. Dr. Emtairah’s presentation introduced National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP) concept to the audience and RCREEE’s contribution in this regards. 

The Forum was organized by the Government of Tunisia, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).

During their visit, Dr. Emtariah, Ms. Rim Boukchina, Project Manager at RCREEE and Mr. Arnulf Knorr, GIZ Programme Coordinator also held meetings with different stakeholders in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy in this field including: The Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines; National Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME); Tunisian Society of Electricity and Gas (STEG); GIZ Delegation; Mediterranean Renewable Energy Center (MEDREC); The Technical Centre for Building Materials (CTMCCV) and Technopole Borj Cedria.
