Lebanese Council of Ministers Approves Licensing the first Three Wind Farms

On November 2, 2017, the Lebanese Council of Ministers approved three licenses for the production of wind power in Akkar Governorate, the wind power plants will be implemented by Lebanon Wind Power, Hawa Akkar S.A.L and Sustainable Akkar.

The three companies have agreed to sell the produced electricity for 11.3 cents per kilowatt hour.  In addition, the Ministry of Energy and Water was authorized to renegotiate the agreed prices with the companies. Upon signing the Power Purchase agreement (PPA), the three companies will have 18 months to complete the Environmental Impact Assessment and other safety checks. After this, they will have 18 months to complete the building of the wind farms.

The wind tender was launched in 2013 and as a part of the national energy production strategy.
