RCREEEE welcomes Minister of Energy in charge of Natural Resources, H.E. Mr. Yonis Ali Guedi

                                                                                                                                                                     

December 20, 2018- Cairo, Egypt: The Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) had the honor of welcoming at its premises a delegation from Djibouti headed by Minister of Energy in charge of Natural Resources, H.E. Mr. Yonis Ali Guedi. The delegation composed of Advisor to the Minister and RCREEE BoT member, Eng. Abass Aden Atteyeh and representatives from Ministry of Energy in Djibouti and Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy in Egypt.

The day started with a welcoming note by RCREEE Executive Director, Dr. Ahmed Badr followed by a presentation by our Technical Director, Eng. Maged K. Mahmoud on RCREEE work areas and recent activities. The delegation also met RCREEE management team and exchanged remarks on RCREEE impact in the region through its projects like the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NREAP) and the Arab Program for Sustainable Energy Youth (APSEY).

In his speech, H.E. Mr. Guedi’s thanked RCREEE for its efforts specially that RCREEE promotes Arab cooperation which is extremely important for the region to flourish and develop.  H.E. also pointed out that renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) are currently considered as top priorities in Djibouti’s electricity sector to achieve it’s 2025 target.

The delegation tackled future cooperation areas to support Djibouti’s efforts achieve its 100% renewable energy target by 2025. Finally, the 2 parties agreed upon organizing a technical mission by RCREEE Executive Director and senior experts to sign a Protocol of collaboration with the ministry and get further insights on the Djibouti RE&EE context.

Accordingly, RCREEE will undertake some actions including:

  • Support develop Djibouti’s first National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NREAP) and strategy
  • Boost efforts for attracting investments in the fields of RE and EE
  • Organize knowledge exchange mission to benefit from the region best practices in the field

Notably, Djibouti joined RCREEE as a member state back in 2014. Djibouti has set itself an ambitious 100% renewable energy target by 2025. Looking at wind and solar, Djibouti is focusing on geothermal energy where the potential is around 1000MW.
