THE ECOWAS COMMISSION AND SPANISH AGENCY FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION SIGN AN AGREEMENT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF 4 PROJECTS

The President of the Commission of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Dr. Omar Touray, and the Head of Spanish Cooperation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ms. Raquel Ferrando Sellers, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the development of 4 projects that will foster clean energy transition, zero hunger and gender equality goals in the region. The signing ceremony took place on 6 December 2022 in Abuja (Nigeria) at the headquarters of the ECOWAS Commission.

ECREEE will be in charge of executing two of the projects that will promote both, the transition to a clean energy circular economy, and the increase of food security by reinforcing the water, energy and food nexus in the region.

ECOWAS Centre for Gender Development (ECGD) and ECOWAS Regional Agency for Agriculture and Food (RAAF) will lead other two projects with the aim of reinforcing institutional capacities for the fight against gender-based violence and the promotion of integrated school feeding models in West Africa.

The Ambassador of Spain for ECOWAS and the Federal Republic of Nigeria has attended the signing ceremony as proof of the commitment of Spanish Government to collaborate for the attainment of strategic objectives of ECOWAS Vision 2050, aligned with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
