The SADC Youth in Energy Webinar Series and SADC Energy Youth Organization Survey launched on 16th June 2021

The SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE) in partnership with the African Union (AU) Youth Club (AUYC) is hosting a series of webinars for the youth, entitled “SADC Youth in Energy Webinar Series”. The aim is to provide the youth with a platform for genuine sector-specific conversations; generate and strengthen awareness on renewable energy and energy efficiency, and exchange innovative ideas amongst themselves and other stakeholders. It will also serve as a networking platform. The webinar series will be part of the key interventions to the SADC Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Strategy and Action Plan (REEESAP), specifically; Action Plan #8: Promote adoption of RE/EE through information, advocacy and awareness; and Action Plan #9: Consider cross-sectoral and cross-cutting issues when implementing RE/EE projects. In addition, SACREEE’s Business Plan (2019-2023) advocates for a youth empowerment programme that aims to grow the number of youths participating in events, discussions and energy-related businesses.

The webinars will be focused on both renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies and related services. In addition, focus on energy access, research & innovation, entrepreneurship, climate change mitigation, productive use of energy and water-energy-food (WEF) nexus will also be prioritized. The webinars shall provide the befitting platform for the youth to engage in stimulating plenary sessions, discussion panels, video presentations, and workshops. The key benefits for the participants will be to make virtual connections; to build national, regional, and international networks; career development; propose solutions to industry challenges; mentorship and linkages to financiers, association & collaboration. The outcomes and recommendations captured from the Webinars will contribute to SACREEE and regional strategic interventions which will lead to policy recommendations and evidence-based solutions.

The webinars will be held every third Wednesday of the month from 14:30-16:00 Central African Time (CAT) via Zoom. Webinar registration: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJYoce6gqT8qG9ErBi7eupjpFYhAFER7REWw

The SADC Energy Youth Organization Survey was launched aimed to capture information about youth movements/organizations/institutions / private companies in the Renewable Energy  (RE)and Energy Efficiency (EE) sector in the SADC region. In addition, the survey seeks for thought leaders to contribute to the RE and EE conversation. The survey is part of the key interventions to the SADC Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Strategy and Action Plan (REEESAP), specifically; Action Plan #8: Promote adoption of RE/EE through information, advocacy and awareness; and Action Plan #9: Consider cross-sectoral and cross-cutting issues when implementing RE/EE projects. In addition, this contributes to SACREEE’s Business Plan (2019-2023) with the target to establish a database of youth active in the energy sector in the region and grow the number of youths participating in events, discussions, and energy-related businesses.
