Coordinator - Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) for Productive Use

Expected Date for Entry on Duty: 1 February 2021

Duration of Appointment: 24 Months - Fixed

      The Project Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the Renewable Energy Expert and he/she will

      perform the following functions:

  • Identify remote agricultural-based communities (smallholder farmers) without access to clean energy services and perennial water in each selected SADC MS.
  • Identify suitable RE sources/technology for productive use at the selected sites
  • Design and build DRE systems with the support of a consultant for RE powered irrigation systems.
  • Train local communities on operation and management of the DRE systems, RE powered irrigation systems, and other technologies as well as establish / enhance management structures.
  • Create and enhance value chains from the opportunities enabled by the WEF nexus interventions.
  • Identify institutions dealing with social welfare improvement in relation to WEF nexus in targeted rural communities.
  • Assist in the establishment of structures and systems to operate and maintain installed RE irrigation systems for productive use
  • Develop knowledge management products; document and disseminate lessons learnt across the SADC region.
  • Develop stakeholder meetings and training workshop agendas in local communities for DRE systems.
  • Provide general support to the day-to-day project activities encompassing monitoring and evaluation of project activities as per work plan and time schedule to ensure its effective execution.
  • Conduct research on relevant documentation, track relevant initiatives, track budget expenditure, and proactively contribute innovative ideas and improvements to the operation of the programme.
  • Ensure that all project meetings are effectively organised and recorded.
  • Maintain effective records and administration.
  • Communicate regularly with all stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties, as may be required.

      Minimum Requirements 

      Nationality:

Citizen of a SADC member country. Women are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications:

  • A university degree in sustainable development; environmental related studies, renewable energy, or rural development, energy economics, business studies, other related field.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in PURE work and project implementation preferably in a rural environment.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with geographic information system (GIS) and financing models for scaling up the deployment of PURE systems would be an added advantage.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office with emphasis on Word, Excel and Outlook is necessary.

SACREEE reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a lower level than the advertised level of the post. It also reserves the right to appoint a candidate to balance the Member State quotas at the institution in line with SADC requirements.
