RCREEE and EWA explore “Electrical Vehicles” project proposal

24 June 2019- Manama, Bahrain: In support of Kingdom of Bahrain’s Renewable Energy program and in close cooperation with Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), the Chief Executive Officer of EWA and RCREEE Board of Trustees member  H.E. Sheikh Nawaf Bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa welcomed RCREEE delegation headed by the Executive Director, Dr. Ahmed Badr accompanied with Siemens delegation.

The meeting tackled various topics with special focus upon RCREEE’s new project proposal on the establishment and setting Electrical Vehicles (EV) sector in the Kingdom’s market. The project, designed in cooperation with Siemens, aims mainly to reduce the kingdom’s carbon dioxide emissions  and of Bahrain’s national energy bills in accordance with the international trends. Besides, the attendees discussed the important role energy service companies can play in supporting Bahrain’s national energy sector under the supervision of EWA.

Over the past years, the Kingdom of Bahrain has taken many steps to introduce EV in the markets benefiting  from EV’s advantages which classify EVs as the most promising option in the future of the automobile industry given the vast technological development.

Building upon these steps, RCREEE proposes a new project in cooperation with EWA that depend mainly on the creation of  enabling conditions that allow EV vast spread and the increase of its competitiveness against traditional transportation means. The project proposal includes developing a detailed technical and economic study, which calls for the cooperation of all national stakeholders.

In addition, the delegations explored the role that EWA can play in the development and empowerment of energy service companies to push forward energy efficiency projects and programs on a national scale. This will further develop the quality of available services in the Kingdom’s market.

RCREEE planning Director, Eng. Ashraf Kraidy and RCREEE Technical Director, Dr. Maged K Mahmoud joined the delegation along with Ms. Laura Wiehler, RCREEE’s business development specialist. Also, Siemens Project Manager Mr. Tugcan Sahin joined the meetings.

Notably, Kingdom of Bahrain is one of the founding member states of RCREEE back in 2008. H.E. H.E. Sheikh Nawaf Bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa was named RCREEE’s board of trustees chairman in 2013.
